Prince Edward Island Folk Song Book

Songs of Magic and Mirth
In songs and stories we walk through terrors and torments we dare not contemplate as reality. Ghosts and ghouls, fairies and foes, troubles and encounters with spirits from the nether world have long been explored in verse.
Sometimes what cannot be ridiculed in conversation or joked about with decorum an be incorporated into a song to make it more palatable. In days of old when there was much more formality, songs were used to communicate critical or unpopular political or social statements. But humourous songs could also just be noncensicle for the fun of it.
