Queen Of The Furrows

Eddy Quinn  from the Fiddlers' Sons album - This Is My Island

Well they say I was a handful don't ya know

Long before I ever settled down

Cause I swung a wide loop and I never said no

To an offer for to paint the town

Well I had a great time and I sang my songs

Met people from east to west

But it's closer to home where my heart belongs

To the woman that I love the best

At The close of summer there's a county fair

In the village that we call Dundas

They have a great big party showing livestock there

When the farmers hold their plowing match

It was there I met her in a field of clover

Best woman that I ever have seen

She didn't mind getting dirty turning red clay over

So they made my little darlin' queen

Chorus

Now Charlottetown has the gold cup girls

And Souris has queen of the sea

There's a miss Northumberland in Murray River

But the queen of the furrows is the girl for me

Queen of the furrows is the girl for me

At the oyster festival their miss Tyne Valley

Has a daddy that you wouldn't want to cross

You'll be very best buddy with a Tignish honey

You'll be bringing in the Irish moss

At the lobster Carny little west end Mary

Drove me crazy up in Summerside

'Round the Bay of St Peters pick a sweet blueberry

To make yourself a mighty fine bride

Chorus

Repeated Chorus

Down in Rustico they never let you go

They're even sweeter in Evangeline

Downtown Morell the women cast their spell

But the queen of the furrows is the girl for me

Queen of the furrows is the girl for me
