Prince Edward Island Folk Song Book

Inspired by the land
These songs speak of the farmers deep, abiding love of the land, of the constantly changing, ever hopeful life they lead. Like a gambler, a farmer bets on success yet is often disappointed, even devastated when losses are suffered. Yet every year they hope for the seasonal joys of a good harvest knowing they may suffer tribulations, crop failures and financial ruin due to the vagaries of nature; her awesome power.
Large dividends are constantly weighed against the possiblity that nature may throw insurmountable obstacles in their way but they go on, have gone on through the mileniea fighting against the odds, turning over the rich red soil, sowing and reaping, working from dawn to dusk so they may harvest the bounty of the earth at the end of the season if nature deems they may.
